Trevor was still buzzing from that kiss as they came through the tunnel to find their friends gathered in front of Holden Pryceâs front porch. A man stood there with a girl who appeared to be eight or nine years old. They both wore coats, scarves, and hats and had smiles on their faces. But the little girlâs smile changed when her gaze landed on Ana.
âDad, itâs Ana from Fix It Up,â the girl said.
Holden looked down at her with a confused expression. And then he followed her stare to the back of the group. To the woman standing next to Trevor.
Ana was scanning the area with a panicked look on her face. This was what sheâd been talking aboutâbeing spotted and everyone making her the center of attention.
Holden nodded and said something to his daughter that they couldnât hear. Then he turned his attention to Ana.
âSo sorry,â he said directly to Ana. âWeâve been watching your show. J.J. here is a bit of a fan.â
With that, Anaâs expression softened. âIâm a fan of yours too, after hearing you sing the other night. You have a beautiful voice.â
The impact that those two sentences had on the girl was clear as day. Ana didnât have to do that. She couldâve said âthank youâ and agreed to a selfie, which was exactly what J.J. came down the steps to get. The crowd in front of them parted to let her through, and Trevor took the picture with J.J.âs camera.
Why did he have a feeling whatever man Ana ended up with would be doing a lot of thatâstanding by to snap photos of her with fans? That thought slammed into him as he handed the camera back, smile frozen on his face.
J.J. gushed her thanks to Ana, then rushed back to the porch to stand next to her dad. But as Ana returned to Trevorâs side, he felt the punch in the gut that came from his thoughts. If only he could shut that part of himself off and just enjoy the moment with her. But he kept thinking there was no way this was going to work. There was no way someone would give up fame, money, and a super successful career to settle down with him.
This would have an end. He could bank on it.
âCome on in,â Holden said, gesturing. âIâll show you around.â
Trevorâs mind had been otherwise occupied. Apparently, Holden was inviting all of them into his house. That was something that would only happen in a small town like Misty Mountain.
Ana grabbed his hand and led him up the stairs behind the rest of the group. To everyone else, theyâd appear to be a couple. But would that make it harder when she was gone? Would he forever be seen as the guy who dated the model-TV host?
âWow,â Ana said as she stopped just inside the foyer, stepping away from him and releasing his hand. The rest of the group had gone off to the right, following Holden farther into the house.
